Peter W. Gyves, SJ MD

Peter is a Jesuit priest and pediatrician who began A Faith That Does Justice in San Diego, CA. He began AFTDJ to make available the experience of faith lived in action he explored among the people of El Salvador during that country's civil war of the 1980's and early 1990's. He seeks to raise consciousness about social issues that affect the most vulnerable among us, while offering others an opportunity to walk in solidarity with those less fortunate than themselves. It was received with great interest and grew rapidly.

After two years, the Jesuit Provincial of the Northeast Province of the Society of Jesus invited him to establish the program in Boston. His vision is for A Faith That Does Justice to be a faith-based voice for social justice in Boston and beyond.

Peter is Founder, Director and President of AFTDJ. In that role he inspires and leads its various programs, especially workshops that explore faith lived in action, and community meetings that discuss issues of social justice that affect the vulnerable of Boston.

As for other interests, Peter enjoys running along the Charles River, listening to classical music and reading.
